Instead of writing about the last few weeks of crazy, I will just post snippets of our moving life, not necessarily in order.
•My baby brother did come down to help us move and he pretty much packed my kitchen. Thanks, Raymond!! Dave’s dad and brother came up and loaded every packed thing into the Uhaul, no questions asked. Lots of beer was had by all.
•The power was still not on because apparently the apartments used to be numbered 1-4 and now they are A, B, C, and D. Logically, if I am in Apt. C, I should be #3, which is what Center Point still had it listed as. Nope, I’m #4. So now my neighbor’s energy was in my name meanwhile my apartment had no power. As it was Labor Day weekend, none of the offices we needed would be open until Tuesday. So we really did move into a powerless apartment.
•Windows painted shut. Still need to call maintenance guy . . .
•Because of the no power thing, we squatted in our old apartment until Tuesday morning, sleeping on REI mats, moving last things in the Civic. Thanks, Civic!!
•Fishies lived in a styrofoam ice chest for 3 days. One of the shrimp didn’t like it and crawled out. Did not survive. Everyone else is fine.
•Got talked into using plant substrate instead of gravel. It’s supposed to be good for my plants. Now I need a new aquarium cleaner b.c I can’t vacuum the substrate.
•Apartment was not cleaned but sent land lady photos and she approved a cleaning service that came on Thursday.
•Power got turned on on Tuesday but we still had dinner at Johanna & Rolf’s and spent the night in their guest bedroom.
•Instead of unpacking, we decided to paint the entire apartment. Painted the bathroom Thursday night. Kitchen and study and living room Saturday. Bedroom Sunday. Unpacked on Monday. Well, started to unpack. Enough to be watching Top Gear and/or blogging. Not enough to cook.
•Somehow, during this time I’ve managed to read Skinny Bitch and have been successfully vegan since Saturday night. 3 cheats: the delicious white dipping sauce at Chuy’s, mayonnaise (I’m not buying new mayo- if I’m still vegan when we run out, I’ll replace it with vegan mayo), and a mini Snickers bar I found in the side pocket of my lunch box today when I was starving.
•Despite my good planning: power turned on Friday, pick up keys Friday night, Uhaul rental Saturday, cable/internet turned on Sunday morning, this is how it really happened: keys Friday, Uhaul Saturday, power Tuesday, internet Monday. Awesome.
•Bought a bed yesterday. NOW we’re grown ups. Not a futon, not a mattress on the floor, but a bed. This one, in fact. Thanks, everyone who got us Crate & Barrel gift cards!!
•This past Friday night, rode my bike to a nearby restaurant. 8 minutes, baby! I’m LOVING my new neighborhood. Oh, and forget the cheap Mexican, the other night we wanted Chinese and I checked my iPhone and ta da! 2 blocks. Next to the Sushi joint. Just down from the Argentine place.

Yeah, that chick has 75 comments on her review. I think the people who disagree with her are right. Her review is more of a rant (complaining about the authors’ clothing choices?). It also sounds like she didn’t finish the book. At the end they say that they really want people to be healthy, not skinny. Not everyone is meant to be skinny, they just wanted us to question what we put in our bodies. And they just chose the title so it would be catchy.
