For Pam- the wedding fee was $100 cash and here are the shoes I wore. This photo makes me laugh because it looks like something straight out of the 70s.
But they go well with my dress and I’ll post pictures of that later.
Since we had all that time to kill I ended up laying out by the pool for about an hour before we got married. It was good that it worked out that way. In the morning we were a little stressed and nervous, anxious to get it over with and looking forward to moving on with our vacation as a married couple. So having all that buildup to that moment and then . . . nothing . . . made it easier to stroll in to the courthouse later that afternoon, relaxed.
We had a sweet ceremony in the top floor of the courthouse, with the windows open and a breeze blowing. Just us and the judge. She was so cute. When it was over, she hugged us and said, “Congratulations! I’m so happy for both of you!” She had just met us 15 minutes earlier.
And that was the reason I eloped. I wanted to be fully in the moment- not worried about what anyone else around us was thinking. Not worried if the caterers were stuck in traffic or if the flowers were just right. I was just there, hearing the words the judge was reading and looking into Dave’s eyes.
When we were done, we went home and changed and went to Balmorhea (pronounced bal-moor-RAY, not bal-moor-RAY-uh as I had been mispronouncing it) State Park. It’s a little man made, spring-fed pool/large pond that is crystal clear and perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving. Or lounging around like iguanas.
Back off, ladies. That sexy beast has been snatched UP! (Good thing he’s getting a tan, dude was getting a bit pasty.)
Then we drove home, stopping in Fort Davis to get a pizza and then we drove to Ft. Davis State Park (I LOVE my Texas State Parks annual pass!) to watch the sun set and the stars come out. All 72 billion of them.
It was a perfect day. And while I never imagined I’d change out of my swimsuit into my wedding dress and go get married smelling like all-natural sunscreen, only to change back into my swimsuit immediately after, it should surprise exactly no one.
