New Radio

So I have a Civic.  And it had this handy Anti-theft thing on the radio.  The regular old radio that it came with.  I’ve never had anyone attempt to steal it, I’ve never done anything to it except turn it on, off and other general use.

When Dave’s parents were here, the battery in their rental car died.  And was impossible to jump start because it was facing a wall in a parking garage and between 2 cars belonging to people who were no doubt out of town.  And we couldn’t move it because putting it in neutral required TURNING IT ON.  (Note to Dodge: you’re stupid.)  So I had to take the battery out of my car and bring it to theirs.  It didn’t jump start their car, but I was able to turn the key and at least get it into neutral (so we could move it and jump start it).

I was proud that I was able to help them.  I didn’t know it would cost me my radio.  So with my battery back in, my clock was 20 minutes slow (?) and the radio read “Code.”  For almost a week.  The Anti-Theft thing requires that I put in a security code.  And even though I have every scrap of paper from the transaction, including the warranty that expired 50,000 miles ago, I don’t have that code.  And Honda was going to charge me $85 to take out the radio to get the serial number so they could give me my code.  (And no, I can’t press 1 and 6 and turn the radio on because they didn’t start programming that until later models.)

$85 for the use of my own radio?  Orrrrr $250 for the installation of a new radio with iPod compatibility?!  Yes, I do think so.  It’s nothing fancy, but it does mean I’ve said goodbye to my last FM transmitter.  Hel-LO hearing music from my iPod on the radio with no static!
