So the last few weeks have been crazy. I think I rebelled from NaBloPoMo by not posting- you know why? Because I don’t have to! So THERE! (sticks out tongue)
My maturity aside, I finished my 3-week dogsitting gig 5 days ago and work was so crazy that when I got home every night I just vegged. We had our holiday contest walk-through on Tuesday (I hate them, I don’t know if I’ve mentioned that) and I think I get the most stressed the week before the walk because the things to do keep piling up and I get overwhelmed. Then I go into superwoman mode on the day before (and the day of) busting out with energy I didn’t know I had, doing projects in one day that I normally wouldn’t do in a week.
Then I come home and stumble to the couch and lie face down not even having the energy to turn and face the television. I was going to write this enlightened post about biking and the emotional train wreck I am in a headwind, only to take a turn or have the wind shift and immediately I start thinking about what a lovely day it is and boy, I should bike more often. Work is like that. These holiday walks are a headwind. I buckle down, deal with it, hate every minute, and when it’s over, I’m back to loving my job. I need increased awareness in both situations.
So Saturday I packed up and left the dogsitting house, came home, changed into party attire and went to have apertifs at my great-aunt’s apartment, then they went to dinner while Dave and I went to Jon’s party which was better than expected.
Sunday Dave and I put up Christmas décor and Dave painted a wall in our kitchen. Monday I worked for 12 hours and Tuesday I went in at 6am and worked another 9. Then I was off, doing a combo of lazy + productive. Painting toenails and dusting a ceiling fan. Watching The Best Year Ever and baking sugar cookies in snowflake shapes.
And here I am, finally blogging again. I am also importing Disc 2 of The Kite Runner and it is taking forfuckingever.
In other news, I have angelfish! Since all my fish died right before my party (happy birthday!), I decided to try it again, this time without a loach. I bought 3 small angelfish, 5 cardinal tetra and 2 shrimp (I named both Jacques). All have been alive for 5 whole days and quite healthy. We were having a cold snap when I bought them (today it was 80°) and their water was a frigid 74° and my angelfish huddled down at the bottom of the tank. So I plugged in the tank heater and within hours they were swimming all over.
Incidentally, this is also how I behave in cold vs. warm weather.
Now Dave is out of town and I’m going to finish tidying up and running some errands.
