The Latest Project: Part 2

So I’ve done some decorating. My little bro and I went to the aquarium store and he totally tolerated me while I picked out plants. (“This one or that one? What about that one? Okay, now, what about that one or this other one?”)

He was so cute. I’d pointed out some plants that Dave said he liked last time we were there. Spider said, “You should get some some of the plants Dave likes. It’s his fishtank, too!”

This made me laugh and struck me as a little absurd. It’s not bedroom furniture, or a paint color for our kitchen wall. It’s like jeans. Do I want him to like them? Yes. Is he helping me pay for them? No. (Also, this doesn’t fit my simile, but did he clean it out in the year that he was living here with it? No.)

So it’s mine.

The rocks and the hard-to-see driftwood are from the previous incarnation of the tank. The most recent purchases are the plants and the special (read: expensive) light with all the blah blah blahs to give plants what they need to grow underwater. Oh, and the black background.

The white things are not sea monkeys, they’re bubbles that were moving as the camera took the shot.

So I’m getting there. I might get more plants, but for now I’ll let it stabilize a bit and probably get the fish when I get back from Austin in a few weeks. Odds of me getting good pictures of the fish are slim, but keep your fingers crossed.

UPDATE: I just went to turn off my aquarium light and turns out I have a little tiny snail!!! It was crawling across one of the tall plant leaves and I was like, “What’s that brown spot?”

Yeah, it’s my new pet snail.

That was the first thing Dave said, too. After losing Super Trooper, I don’t think I’m ready to name this guy just yet.
