So I didn’t run all weekend. Partly b.c I was crampy and partly b.c I was in Dallas and it was 22° and drizzling and the streets were frozen. And Monday was Masochist Yoga.

I had plans with Hitomi to run early Wednesday morning and I typically don’t run 2 days in a row, but I decided to anyway. Took off yesterday and jogged down to Hermann. I didn’t expect myself to make it to Hermann, but it was easier than I thought it would be. It turns out that distance there and back is exactly 2 miles. That will be good to know once I start jogging longer distances.

But I realize that my challenge now is to actually jog that entire distance and get rid of walking entirely.

I think that the weird thing about jogging/running is how easy it is. I’m not used to putting so little effort into working out. Not the actual workout, but the preparation. For my other activities, I get dressed, drive somewhere, bring a yoga mat, pay $$, put away my shoes/jacket, etc. Or I get my bike, check the tires, carry it downstairs, wear a helmet . . . but running. For running, I get dressed, tie my shoes, grab my iPod . . . and that’s it.

I just stretch and walk downstairs. And that’s it. I just start jogging. No gear, no membership, no comparing myself with others. And if I want to stop, I stop. And then I’m walking, which I have NO hangups about. It’s weird.

And this morning Hitomi called and said it was foggy and really wet and she’s got a healing ankle to worry about. She slipped in the mud last week but luckily didn’t twist her ankle. So no running in the eerie fog this morning.
