Marathon Training. Week 2, Day 3

Wait, Jen, where did Day 2 go?

Well, I decided that running on the treadmill at the allergist counts as Day 1. Which makes Wednesday 2 and today, Saturday, Day 3. Woooo!

Today I ran/walked farther than before. I need to stop doing that and concentrate on going the same distance, but running–not walking–for longer periods of time. And my breathing is better. When I get winded after a 1-minute jog, I’m usually fine after 1-2 minutes of walking. Before, I was winded the whole time.

Today I decided to head south down my street toward Hermann Park, instead of running in an E-shape through my neighborhood. (Picture me running on a map in the pattern you’d draw a capital E with an Etch-A-Sketch.) I avoid doing that during the weekday b.c the block in front of the Mexican Consulate is always so crowded with people waiting in line, people selling tacos, people selling other things, people feeding crying kids . . . and the last thing I want to see when I’m running is people. So usually I head north.

And today I head south. And the Mexican Consulate is apparently open on Saturdays. So I made it a point to smile at everyone I made eye contact with and most smiled back and some said “Good morning.”

All those good vibrations, see what I’d have missed out on?

Anyway, my body actually hurt today, not just my lungs. Not like my quads or anything, but the back part of my right hip, and my neck.

My hips- always my hips!! In yoga, if I can’t bend a certain way and it seems to be no problemo for everyone else, I figure it’s my scoliosis. But twice I’ve asked for assistance and they ask where the pain is and it turns out my curvy back is not the problem- it’s my hips. My hips are by far the tightest part of my body. I used to think my hamstrings were another problem area- nope. I hyperextend my legs when I stand naturally (thanks, mom!) so my hamstrings are already stretched out. But my hips are closed. So I gotta work on that.
